How a Form Fill Seal Machine Works

A form fill seal machine helps businesses package products into bags in a production line. Whether you’re producing potato chips, granola bars, or another food product, these packaging machines are a great way to increase your brand’s presence on shelves and in consumer homes. They help you make your packaging stand out among the competition and give your consumers a better understanding of what’s inside.

These machines create packaging from roll film, which means that you can use a wide variety of bag sizes, shapes, and designs to suit your specific product. They can even be used to package liquids and other semi-liquid products, such as salad dressings, bath gels, or ketchup.

To start the process, the machine feeds a sheet of film over a forming tube that turns it into a cylinder shape for filling and sealing. Then, a vacuum suction or friction pull down belt grabs the film, which is drawn down and through the forming tube by the gear motors (or by two separate ones on intermittent motion machines).

Once the film has passed through the forming tube, the product will be dispersed into the resulting bag, and then the top of the bag will be hot sealed to seal in the product. This is a continuous operation, so once one bag is finished, the next will begin to be formed and sealed as well. The machine will also either add a date/batch code or a tear notch to the top of the finished bag, depending on your requirements.

This type of packaging machine is used in many industries because it’s a fast, economical solution that conserves valuable plant floor space. As a result, it can offer a lower total cost of ownership than premade pouch machines. This includes not only the initial purchase price, but also additional costs like maintenance, material inventory, and labor.

In addition, unlike the case with some other types of packaging machinery, a VFFS machine is able to switch quickly between different bag sizes without the need for a costly system downtime. This makes it an excellent choice for factories that regularly change between various packaging sizes, including single-serving packets of ketchup or mayonnaise.
